Spotlight: Toni Faiella

We caught up with NIDC’s new Afterschool Program Director, Toni Faiella, to get the scoop on summer camp.

How many students are in summer camp this year?
We have a total of 250 students in our summer camp.

What are some of the places the students will visit this year?
We have some very cool trips planned this year. Students will go rollerblading at Brooklyn Bridge Park’s newly renovated Pier 2, test out the latest gadgets at the Sony Wonder Technology Lab, and see exotic animals at the Bronx Zoo to name a few.

Why do you think summer camp is important?
Summer camp keeps academic skills sharp when school is out of session. Our camp, in particular, gives students the opportunity to explore New York City through frequent trips outside the Bronx.

What are you most excited for this summer?
Seeing new and returning faces at the start of camp has me pretty excited.

What’s something people might not know about summer camp at NIDC?
NIDC participates in NYC’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). We employ high school youth in a variety of roles giving them hands-on experience in a non-profit work environment.
