Afterschool & Summer Services

NIDC works with local schools, organizations, and community centers to provide quality afterschool and summer programming for children ages 5 and up.

We offer the following FREE or low-cost youth programs:

Afterschool Programming

Our afterschool programs provide children with an opportunity to foster social and emotional skills, strengthen academic skills, explore their world, give back to the community, enhance their creativity, develop healthy habits, and, above all believe that they can succeed.

Our core curricula are professionally developed and aligned with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the National Council of Teachers of English standards.

Summer Programming

Summer programming mirrors our afterschool goals of supporting social and emotional growth, cognitive learning, and creativity to combat the loss of academic skills and knowledge that often occur over a student’s summer vacation.

Community Center at Eastchester Gardens

Neighborhood Initiatives Development Corporation (NIDC) has been operating the Eastchester Gardens Community Center for thirteen years.  Through our work with the youth, families and all stakeholders we have transformed the community center into a center of community.  We offer a range of programs to meet the needs of the residents of Eastchester Gardens as well as for the greater community including:

After-School/Summer Camp for 55 K-5th grade students providing academic support and enrichment, social/emotional learning, and civic engagement working closely with all schools in the community.

Evening and weekend programming for teens and young adults in our gym, computer resource room, game room and weight room.  Our focus is on providing safe space to develop social and recreational skills helping participants develop greater leadership skills and learn about themselves and their worlds.  Our average nightly attendance is 75 participants.

The Zone is a twice-a-week pro-social drop-in group for adults between the age of 21-55. Our average attendance is 15.

Saturday Night Lights opens the gym for young people on Saturday nights to have a safe and positive place to have fun.  The program averages 30 teens every Saturday night.

NIDC Eastchester Xpress

NIDC Eastchester Xpress is designed for community and youth engagement with programs ranging from elementary to adults.

Our after-school program services kindergarten to fifth grade by focusing on nurturing the whole child. We engage our youth in activities such as S.E.L, education, and fitness. But most importantly, we support each participant's individuality. Our goal is to provide opportunities and develop a solid support team that will build future leaders.

Remember, it takes a village.
